Leaving a legacy to the branch in your Will

The importance of a valid Will

It is important to make a Will to ensure your estate goes to the people and causes you care about. Many people assume their partner will automatically inherit their estate, but this isn’t always the case. Without a valid Will, the law decides how your possessions are distributed and others may have claim on your estate.

Why leave a legacy to the RSPCA?

Leaving a legacy to a charity such as the RSPCA, allows you to carry on caring long after you die. The Hillingdon, Slough, Windsor, Kingston & District RSPCA help over 8,000 sick and neglected animals a year. To provide this vital lifeline it costs us over £20,000 a month in vets bills, food, bedding and lifesaving drugs. By leaving the Branch a gift in your Will it will enable us to become more financially stable and allow us to develop our existing services and equipment.

How to leave a legacy?

It is simple to have a Will drawn up and saves a lot of aggravation and heartbreak for your relatives when you die. A list of solicitors can be found in the Yellow Pages and the cost of writing a Will can be as little as £50.

If you have already made your Will but you would like to leave a gift to the Branch, it’s simple to add a codicil to your existing Will. Your solicitor or legal adviser will be able to explain this to you.

Ways to give:

You can give a specific sum of money, an item, or a piece of property (this is called a pecuniary legacy)

You could give RSPCA all or part of what is left after your other gifts and bills have been dealt with (this is called a residuary legacy)

To ensure your gift comes to this Branch, we respectfully suggest you use the following words in your Will:

I give devise and bequeath to the Hillingdon Slough Windsor, Kingston & District  branch of the RSPCA, 16 Crescent Parade, Uxbridge Road, Hillingdon, Middlesex UB10 0LG (registered charity number 263515) the sum of £x OR the whole (or a share) of my residuary estate for its general charitable purposes. I declare that the Receipt of the Treasurer or other proper officer of the charity shall be a sufficient discharge therefore.

(Please print this page and take it along to your solicitor, if you wish to help local animal welfare it is important you state the above charity number and outline your wish).

How to protect your pets once you die

Are you ever worried about who will care for your pets after you die? We would advise you to include them in your Will. If you haven’t identified a relative or friend who would be willing to care for your pets, the RSPCA offers a free service to find a loving home for your animals after you die. To ensure that the Hillingdon Slough Windsor Kingston & District RSPCA know that you have expressed this wish, we respectfully suggest you include the following wording in your Will:

“It is my wish that the ownership of any animals I have in my care at the time of my death is passed to the Hillingdon, Slough, Windsor, Kingston & District RSPCA."
